WHAT IS BROMANTANE?

Detailed overview

Bromantane (Ladasten, ADK-709) is an adamantane-aminobenzol derivative developed in Russia originally as a military actoprotector (physical + mental performance under stress, heat tolerance). Unusual mechanism: upregulates tyrosine hydroxylase + DOPA decarboxylase expression (dopamine synthesis), modulates serotonin and GABA, and acts as a mild immunomodulator (cytokine synthesis regulation). Rx in Russia for chronic fatigue, neurasthenia, asthenic disorders. WADA-listed (S0 non-approved substances).

Safety

Side effects, stop signs, contraindications

Side effects · 7

  • Sleep disturbance, insomnia (especially with evening dosing, due to dopaminergic activation)
  • Irritability, restlessness
  • Mild dry mouth
  • Headache
  • Appetite loss and increased thirst at high doses (>200 mg/day)
  • Tolerance with prolonged use, requiring cycling off
  • Individual variability: mild sedation rather than stimulation in some users

Contraindications · 6

  • Avoid with MAO inhibitors (risk of serotonin syndrome and hypertensive crisis)
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding (no human safety data)
  • Bipolar disorder (dopaminergic activation may trigger a manic episode)
  • Active psychotic disorder (dopaminergic overstimulation may worsen symptoms)
  • Severe cardiovascular or hepatic disease
  • Prohibited for competitive athletes (WADA S0, non-approved substances)

FAQ

FAQ

Bromantane is a Russian-developed compound originally created for military use, to fight fatigue and sustain performance under stress or cold. According to the sources it works as an anti-anxiety agent without causing drowsiness, and Russian studies suggest it can improve endurance and resilience to physical stress. Most of the evidence comes from Russian clinical and sports research, so independent human data outside Russia is scarce.
